Supt. Mike Jette

Good morning, Litchfield Families!

Eversource has announced a need to complete an emergency repair on a failed transmission tower in town.  In order to safely make the repair, there will be 2 periods of time on Monday, December 7th when the power is out:  8:00 to 10:00 in the morning and 3:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon.  These times are estimated and we anticipate power will be restored sooner than the indicated 2-hour outage window.

The circuit without electricity impacts over 950 household and business accounts in Litchfield including Griffin Memorial School.  This means our elementary teachers will be unable to work from Griffin, and some elementary, middle and high school students who live in the impacted area will not have internet access for remote learning during the outage.

We have developed a plan that is responsive to the situation at each school.

Campbell High School – Power will not be out at CHS.  Teachers will arrive at school on time, and deliver remote instruction from 7:30 to 8:00.  At 8:00, classes will end and teachers and paraprofessionals will use “outage time” to complete the annual ALICE recertification training.  Once power is restored, classes will resume.  The following is the CHS schedule for the day:

Block A:  7:30-8:00 (30min)

8:00 – 9:00 Staff Annual ALICE Training: Students Working Independently

Block A Continues (as soon as power is restored): 9:04-9:48 (44min+30min = 74 min)

Block B: 9:52-11:06 (74 min)

11:10 – 11:40 Teacher & Student Lunch: 30 min

Block C: 11:44-12:59 (75 min)

Block D: 1:03-2:18 (75 min)

Litchfield Middle School – Power will not be out at LMS.  Teachers will arrive at school on time, and deliver remote instruction from 7:45 to 8:00.  At 8:00, classes will end and teachers and paraprofessionals will use “outage time” to complete the annual ALiCE recertification training.  Once power is restored, classes will resume.

Griffin Memorial School – Power will be out at GMS.  All students and staff will work remotely for the day, and we will use this day to practice whole school remote learning for our first “weather cancellation”.  Teachers and paraprofessionals will use “outage time” to complete the annual ALiCE recertification training.  Once power is restored, classes will resume.  The following is the schedule for the day:

9:15 2nd Grade Special

10:10 4th Grade Special

11:05 3rd Grade Special

12:50 1st Grade Special

1:40 K Special

*All Lunch and Recess Times Stay the Same

Let’s hope all of the utility workers are safe, and power is restored as soon as possible!

Be well & Stay Strong!

Mike Jette,

Superintendent of Schools
