Dr. Michael Jette, Superintendant.

I am writing about the plan for school after the holiday break.  We intend to follow a “phased back approach”, and the details for our return in 2021 are as follows:

Monday, January 4th – Remote Learning, Survey and Assess:  Students will have a Remote Learning Day while teachers and staff will report to school as assigned.  At 7:30 in the morning, we will administer a Mandatory Survey of all staff and students based on the 3 questions of the daily health screening (Travel?, Close Contact? & Symptom Free?)  The survey is due by 9:00, and we will assess the results as an administrative team.

Tuesday, January 5th – Remote Learning, Decision and Communication:  Students will have a Remote Learning Day while teachers and staff will report to school as assigned.  After looking at the situation on Monday and Tuesday, we will make a decision about a return to in-person learning for those families who are comfortable with that instructional model.

Wednesday, January 6th – Remote Learning and Transition:  Students will have a Remote Learning Day while teachers and staff will report to school as assigned.  Assuming we are able to safely staff the buildings and the COVID situation in our schools indicates a safe return, we will make final preparations to welcome students back to school.

Thursday, January 7th – Earliest Date to Return to In-person Learning and Future Planning:  Assuming our assessment is positive, this is the earliest date we could return to in-person learning for those families who are comfortable with that model; We also intend to continue to offer blended synchronous learning for those who prefer to remain remote.  We further intend to administer a survey of our remote families for the 3rd quarter of the school year (January 27th to April 7th).  This survey will ask families who are in remote learning to indicate if they are committed to that model for another quarter or if they would prefer to return to in-person learning as long as that option is available.

As always, the situation could change based on what we find with our staffing availability or local COVID cases.  Questions may be directed to me or the building principal for your child.  We do have several openings for full-time, part-time and temporary help.  Details can be found https://www.litchfieldsd.org/EmploymentOpportunities.aspx?fbclid=IwAR3NywXiamPPr3_RxYz_pfxfmxeWD4lz7G-xUzi0x3Ac_tM83dn-joz_WN4.  Please help us share the word about these our opportunities in a terrific school district!  We need staff in order to fully operate in-person learning.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy school break, with warm wishes for peace and prosperity in 2021!  Be Well, Stay Strong and Wear a Mask!
